This week we had to read an entire book. The book I read was The Son of Neptune by Rick Riordan. The book talks about the roman gods and goddesses. As most people know Percy Jackson from the Percy Jackson series, he has lost his memory and is running from 2 gorgons. You might be saying why and how did he lose his memory, well the goddess named Juno in the roman form or Hera in Greek form took the memories from Percy so that he could help her on a quest. The 2 gorgons are trying to kill Percy because he killed their sister Medusa. So he is running and a old hippy looking woman told him to carry her across the bridge or he could go to the sea to where he belongs (Percy is the son of Neptune). He said that there are two guards blocking the way to go across. She said they will let you. So he carried her and ran across, but when he got there the gorgons cached up and started to fight and the guards told them to got to camp Jupiter. So then they went and she got off and turned out to be the goddess Juno. So then Juno makes him go on a quest to full fill the prophecy called the prophecy of seven. He took two friends he met named Hazel Levesque and Frank Zhang. So they go on a quest to free Thanotos. They face lots of dangers like the amazons, Phineas, and Alcyoneus. Then they come back and have to fight against the ogres. Once they were done they ate and celebrated. The next day Percy, Hazel, and Frank waited for the Argo ll to come with Jason Grace, Annabeth, Leo, and Piper.
This week I checked my grades. They were better than last week, because last week I checked and had only one A and the rest B's. This week In math I have a B ( 86% ) because I got a 75% on my quiz. So with that I have a C for my assessment and A for CW / HW. That is why I do my TRF on math. My goal is to pass my test better and get the grade into an A. In Language Arts I have an A (90%) because I got good scores on test and homework. I got an A on CW/HW and a B on my test and quizzes. My goal is to get better scores on test and quizzes. In Science I have a B (87%) because I got a 45% out of 100% for my geologic Time Scale Test. My goal is to do better on my test using my interactive reader and try to get an A. For Avid I have an
Last week our AVID teacher told us that we were not going to do TRF today. She told us we were going to go down to the 1st floor into a room to do something really cool. When we got there we saw lots of supplies. Then she told us we were going to build rockets. There was a lady. She told us that she was from discovery science center. She said she was going to help us build the parachutes. We had to work together in two partners. My partner was named Christian we had to measure the inches for the parachute. We had to tie it with some string it had to connect to a metal part. The metal was not heavy but for the parachute it might have been. Once we did that we had to go outside and test it out. There was someone who helped us tie it good and make sure it takes a long time to come down. They told us we were going to come back on Thursday. On Thursday we did come back there was a new lady she told us we were going to launch the rockets. We went outside to launch it. Once we were at the grass area she told us to fill the rocket with 1/4 of water. Then she told us who wanted to go first. Lots of people went. Then we wanted to go but my friends went first. They were pumping the air up and the other one pulled it. But once he pulled it went to him, hit him and he fell to the ground. So we didn't get to go. But it was a lot of fun.
Yesterday we went to a field trip. The field trip was at UCI. At first I thought it was gonna be small, but when we got their it was big. Once we got of the bus our tours greeted us and showed us around. He showed us why a building did not have windows. He said because they do some labs and people outside can look at them and they could get distracted and mess up with the lab. That is why they did not put windows. While we were walking he was telling us about the buildings. We stopped where there was a fountain and he said that they weren't actually anteaters at the beginning, the had some ideas like a unicorn, they did not like that mascot. They asked a guy that read lots of comics and he said an anteater they said that they liked it and at the first water polo game the were called the anteaters.
In AVID we had to start to do a college poster and we had to choose what college or university you wanted to research. My poster was gonna be the University of Notre Dame. The University of Notre Dame is located in the state Indiana. Their school mascot is a Irish Leprechaun. The mascot usually played on football games. To get in to the school you need to take certain classes. Not only classes but you also need to pay money. They do not have a school pledge or creed. But they do have a mission statement. Notre Dame is a catholic school. They have a grotto to pray. Students could also go to church there.
This week in Science I learned that peppered moth survive by blending in with their surroundings. We had to find a partner and one partner hides some paper moth and your partner has to find them. In Social Studies we had to do a project about medieval times. My group got the crusades of the middle east. In Math we learned how percents are used in math problems. They also showed us how to use 10 percents with the problems. In Language Arts we are learning about the Symposium that is coming up. We are in groups and we have to come up with a good question and research on it, we have to end up with a question (said Ms. Romeo.) In P.E. we had to run the mile some people did not run the mile because they had a mile pass and Mr.Glenane said that we should save it till the last run witch is coming up on May. In AVID we had to do a TRF on Monday like every other Monday, and we also had to do a reflection. My question focused on how do you solve 10 percent problems.
My point of confusion was how can I solve a distance, time. and rate problem ? What I learned about my point of confusion is that you have to make a triangle and write the numbers in one side of the triangle, you have to divide the triangle into three sections and you write the distance on the top section the rate on the left section and the time in the right section. I gained a greater understanding of my point of confusion when they told me that I had to divide the time and the distance to get the rate. Then the answer of the division problem is my rate but I have to put it as meters per second (mps). This learning is important because it connects to my previous learning because in my math class we play a game called kahoot in our Chromebook and it is like a quiz and all the students try to get to the top. The test is about distance, time, and rate. We are also doing quizzes about drt and I needed help on those kind of problems. What I found meaningful about this weeks tutorial session is that when you organize the numbers in the triangle you have to divide the time with the rate and the answer is your rate, but you have to put it as meters per second or mps.
I have achieved 2 goals of February. One of the goals I passed is that I beat my mile time by a minute I had it at 10 minutes and now I got 9 minutes. Another goal I passed is that I got a better grade in all my classes, I have A's on P.E., science, ELA, and social studies.
This week in language arts we used a website called EverFi. We had to use it for our new chromebooks , it told us about how to stay safe in the laptop. It is also about what websites are good for you to buy lots of stuff it has to be https in the beginning. In Math we learned about DRT ( distance, rate, and time ). If it says mph (per) it is rate, distance is miles, and time is hours or seconds. In Social Studies we are learning about the Aztecs and that they lived in Tenochtitlan which is now Mexico. It is also that they found the eagle holding a snake in his mouth and sitting on a cactus. In Science I learned about dinosaurs and about how the bones are mostly the same as other mammals.
- I will beat my mile time by 1 minute
- I will read a book and get a good score on AR - I will get a better gpa in my classes |
